Tuangkus Harianja: “Farmers must become managers on their own land, not becomes WORKERS.”
PEMATANGSIANTAR — SEGARIS.CO — FOR Sudianto Wilis — Chairman of HKTI Pematangsiantar City — hydroponic planting, which was originally a hobby, has turned out to be able to provide such significant changes in supporting food security for his family.
“What was originally a hobby, is now in its third year, the results of hydroponic plants have become the main income for my family,” said Sudianto Wilis who was accompanied by the Head of Education and Training [DIKLAT] of the Indonesian Farmers Association [HKTI] of North Sumatra [Sumut], Dr Tuangkus Harianja SH MH when interviewed by the Editor-in-Chief of Segaris.co, Ingot Simangunsong, on Tuesday [11/19/2024].
Sudianto Wilis began to focus on hydroponic farming after becoming acquainted with the Pematangsiantar BNNK program which was led by Tuangkus Harianja at that time.
“BNN has a hydroponic farming program that the general public can follow. I was interested and was given the opportunity to open land on the third floor of the BNN building,” said Sudianto Wilis.
On the 3rd floor, with a land area of 15 meters x 15 meters, Sudianto Wilis planted lettuce leaves.
The results were fantastic, Sudianto Wilis has entered Pasar Horas, supermarkets/malls and culinary entrepreneurs.
The lettuce leaf products from his hydroponic garden are untouched by pesticides, original with low water content.
“Our lettuce leaf products are pesticide-free and last one week in the refrigerator,” said Sudianto Wilis who was overwhelmed with meeting market demand.
Currently, with the same planting pattern, Sudianto Wilis has planted 100 melon trees in the Tanjungpinggir area, Siantar Martoba District.
“Each tree will produce two melons weighing three kilos, at the age of 6 months it will produce 300 kilos and be rejected to the collector for Rp30,000 per kilo,” said Sudianto Wilis.

SUDIANTO Wilis appreciates the great idea of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto for the acceleration program of NATIONAL FOOD SECURITY SELF-SUFFICIENCY, especially in Pematangsiantar City.
“We fully support and HKTI Pematangsiantar under the guidance of Mr. Tuangkus Harianja, is ready to educate and train farmers and millennials,” said Sudianto Wilis.
